Artful Pianos in Oaktown

While wandering downtown Oakland at the last Art Murmur, we gazed longingly into the windows of the Piedmont Piano Company.

Not only do they have an awesome vintage neon sign outside (above) but inside the showroom were pianos to die for. Vintage and new, grands and uprights – the beauty and craftsmanship is astounding. Definitely a place to browse and linger in. We had to content ourselves with a gaze through the windows until we return when they are open. Check out the beauty below!

This unique Steinway (above detail) has a fascinating history.

In the 1970s and 80s it was owned and recorded on by Earl “Fatha” Hines (below), one of the most important and talented pianists in the history of jazz.

Wonderful photo of the neon. I visited the Bay area in April of this year and fell in love with it 🙂
